Tony | Counsellor

Online Counselling & Life Coaching

My name is Tony, and I am an online counselor and clinical supervisor based in New Zealand.

**ACC-Funded Counseling:**(There is a wait list)
With over 20 years of experience in social services, I specialise in helping individuals uncover their direction in life. If you feel stuck and are seeking a new path with actionable goals and support, I can assist you.
- I address challenges with a balanced approach, having worked with diverse ethnicities, ages, and backgrounds, including both victims and perpetrators of violence.
- I maintain a non-judgmental stance, as I believe that everyone aspires to lead a happier life, even when they feel uncertain about how to achieve it.
- As an artist and musician, I incorporate art to facilitate healing and self-discovery.
- I am a full member and accredited clinical supervisor of DAPAANZ, adhering to their code of ethics, and I am ACC registered.
- My commitment to a holistic approach considers all aspects of your life.
I utilise various therapeutic techniques tailored to each individual, including mindful cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), motivational interviewing, hypnotherapy, and Te Whare Tapa Whā, with a focus on somatic embodiment to address trauma stored in the body.
I understand that communication can sometimes be challenging, and I’m here to guide you through that process. I will provide you with manageable homework tasks, as the most significant growth often occurs outside of our sessions.
Remember, your effort in applying what you learn to your daily life will be key to your progress. It’s not just about attending sessions; it's about integrating these insights for lasting change.
If you’d like to learn more or schedule an appointment, please feel free to contact me.

Specialisations and Expertises

I provide support in several key areas:
**Addiction:**
As a registered member of DAPAANZ, I specialise in addressing addiction issues, with a primary focus on alcohol and substances. Whether you aspire to achieve abstinence or aim to make informed choices to reduce harm, I am here to guide you through your journey.
**Anger Management:**
Anger management is not about eliminating anger; rather, it's about learning to recognise, cope with, and express your anger in healthy and constructive ways. It’s a skill that anyone can develop, and there’s always an opportunity for improvement.
**Family Harm:**
I have extensive experience working with families facing low to high-risk harm situations. Before we begin counselling, it is essential to first address any existing risks to ensure a safe environment for all involved.
**Trauma:**
I have a deep commitment to working with both historical and current trauma, and I am ACC funded. My approach utilises a variety of tools to help individuals navigate their circumstances effectively. The primary goals of trauma therapy include:
- Facing the reality of past events without becoming trapped in them
- Reducing or eliminating trauma symptoms
- Shifting focus from the past to the present
- Improving daily functioning
- Raising awareness of hereditary trauma
- Reclaiming personal power
- Overcoming addictions linked to traumatic stress
- Gaining skills to prevent relapse
- Understanding that "the body keeps the score"
- Practicing mindfulness to connect with bodily sensations
- Utilising Brainspotting to facilitate processing
I am dedicated to helping you work through these challenges and reclaim your well-being.

Most common issues I support people with:

  1. Trauma
  2. PTSD
  3. Anxiety
