Counselling Nelson
What’s important to me:
I value respect, trust, relationship and connection and believe that everyone is entitled to having choice in their lives. I provide a safe and confidential space where people can discuss what is important to them. I believe that everyone is unique and that our stories are important and need to be heard.
I offer respectful listening, creative and collaborative problem-solving, and time and space to reflect on how patterns of believing and behaving can impact our lives both positively and negatively.
Services offered:
- ACC Senstive Claims
- Psychosynthesis counselling
- Dance/Movement Therapy
- Somatic Psychotherapy
- Sand-tray work
- Neurodiversity informed approach
- Rainbow awareness
- Women of Worth Program
- Universal Wellbeing Evaluations
- Supervision
How I work:
I provide a person-centred, strengths-based, non-judgmental approach in guiding people to examine and reshape their concerns.
I work alongside people to better understand the source of their concerns, and to develop a plan for moving forward in their lives in a more balanced and integrated way. I believe that in realigning with their purpose, meaning, and value in their lives, people can feel better resourced, resilient, and stronger within themselves, their families, their workplaces, and their communities.
I work in private practice in the Top of the South region supporting clients who have experienced trauma through the ACC Sensitive Claims process. I also work with clients who identify as neuro-diverse and members of the Rainbow Community. I trained as a Dance/Movement Therapist in the US and as a Psychosynthesis counsellor in NZ and have over 30 years’ experience working in the mental health and disability field. I also worked for 15 years as a tai chi instructor and I volunteer in my community as a facilitator of the Women of Worth program.
I am enthusiastic about supporting people to feel resourced, empowered, and fully engaged in their lives. I promote the therapeutic use of the body/mind connection, and employ tools and techniques from the creative arts therapies, Non-Violent Communication, Somatic Psychotherapy, and Sand-tray work. I support people in my area to foster their personal growth and development through workshops and experiential opportunities. I am an active member in the Conscious Dance community and promote movement-based self-care practices for my fellow community of health and wellbeing practitioners, as well as my clients.
ACC Clients please note: Since the new Sensitive Claims service has come into effect on Dec 1st, 2024, ACC will no longer allow counsellors to work with clients outside of their region without special permission to use exclusively Telehealth services. This permission is granted on a case by case basis and is related to the availability of practitioners in your region. If you would like to work with me under your ACC Sensitive Claim, please seek permission from your Recovery Partner or Assisted Recovery Team first before contacting me. Apologies for the extra step, but it is necessary for ACC approval.
Respectfully,
Fiona
